Some people download Tammi because a friend asked them to, others to join a class group for their child, and some simply out of curiosity about a new app from Viettel. But after the first sign-in, many are surprised to find names they know very well already inside the app, and that sense of familiarity is carrying Tammi to 20 million users in under three months since launch.
Installed as a favour, stayed for the familiar faces
Phuong Anh, a second-year student in Hanoi, downloaded the app only as a favour, because her roommate asked her to install it together so they could both claim the referral rewards. At first, she did not think she would use it for long. But when she synced her contacts, Phuong Anh was surprised to find so many familiar people already on Tammi, from her high-school friends and her former homeroom teacher to her siblings back home and friends she had not contacted in a long time.
For Thu Trang in Cau Giay District, Hanoi, the story also began with a very simple need, installing Tammi to receive messages from her daughter’s class group. She was then taken aback to find that her Tammi contacts included not only family and colleagues but also names she had saved in a hurry on her phone, “Chi Lien Bun moc”, “Lam shipper”, “bac To truong”. People she only occasionally called or texted were suddenly together in one messaging app.
It felt like stepping into a familiar neighbourhood, where family, friends and colleagues are all present, even if she could not remember the last time she had spoken to some of them. That feeling, “Tammi – Nguoi nha”, Tammi as family, grows out of exactly that familiarity, when a new app does not ask users to rebuild their relationships from scratch but greets them with the names already in their lives.

A digital home that feels safe and familiar
With Tammi, Viettel has built calling, messaging, video calls and group chats, together with everyday utilities for study, work and daily life. The app also brings artificial intelligence into the experience, such as noise filtering in calls and an AI assistant in conversations, to make it easier to talk even in a noisy place or when help is needed with information and tasks.
Alongside convenience, Tammi verifies accounts by phone number, supports linkage with VNeID to strengthen identity verification, and asks users to re-verify when they switch to a new phone, under Circular 08. The app also offers tools to protect chat content and privacy. With every account tied to a verified subscriber number, users have less reason to fear fake links and anonymous scams.
Tammi is also free of data charges when using the app, and comes with 5GB of free Cloud storage, so users can keep documents and information safe without worrying about running out of space.
Twenty million users in under three months
On 27 October, Viettel Telecom, the developer of Viettel Tammi, announced that the app had passed 20 million users in under three months since its official launch. Notably, around 10% of Tammi users are on other networks such as VinaPhone and MobiFone. In October, the ratio of daily active users to monthly active users (DAU/MAU) reached nearly 30%.
That growth comes from Viettel genuinely listening to the market and building an app that brings peace of mind and stays simple enough even for people who are not comfortable with technology. Amid a vast online world full of worries, Tammi is becoming a safe digital home, a place that keeps the familiar and trusted connections of Vietnamese daily life intact.
