The ASEAN Biomass Energy Expo 2027 (ABEE 2027) returns to Bangkok on March 17–19, 2027, at the IMPACT Exhibition Centre, bringing together the region’s biomass industry for three days of exhibition and conference. Organised by GRANDEUR GLOBAL GROUP (THAILAND) and guided by Thailand’s Ministry of Energy, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) and the Council of Engineers Thailand, ABEE is the only dedicated biomass exhibition and conference platform in ASEAN. The expo is co-located with ASEE 2027, the ASEAN Smart Energy and Energy Storage Expo.
What the expo covers
The exhibition covers the full biomass value chain, from raw material processing to energy application. On display are biomass power generation, waste-to-energy, biofuels and agricultural waste utilisation, with technologies including biomass pellet production systems, gasification and power generation, waste incineration solutions and industrial organic waste-to-energy systems. The focus is on real market applications, not laboratory concepts: pellet plants, gasifiers and incineration units that industrial users can deploy to cut energy costs and carbon emissions. Exhibitors come from China, Spain, the Philippines, Thailand and beyond, and the exhibitor list includes EGAT alongside equipment and technology providers from across Asia and Europe. Support for the event also comes from the Indonesian Biomass Energy Society, the Indonesian Biomass Energy Producers Cooperative (KEBI) and the Bioenergy Association of New Zealand.
Buyers from more than 60 countries
The previous edition attracted buyers from more than 60 countries and regions, drawn by accelerating demand for biomass across Southeast Asia and the expo’s growing role as a regional industry hub. Highlights include a Nepal VIP delegation conducting targeted business matching, strong interest from Pakistan’s textile industry in biomass energy solutions, Korean companies exploring industrial biomass applications, and Chinese buyers focused on biomass power generation and waste-to-energy projects. According to the organiser, buyer demand is clearly project-driven, particularly in industrial energy transition and cost reduction, and the overall buyer profile shows strong potential for real project conversion.
Why it matters for Vietnam
For Vietnamese readers, the themes will look familiar. Biomass power, waste-to-energy and biofuels are the same areas Vietnam is exploring as it shifts its energy mix, and Southeast Asia is now one of the fastest-growing biomass markets in the world, supported by abundant biomass resources, growing demand for waste-to-energy solutions, industrial decarbonisation and favourable government policies. Thailand and Indonesia are accelerating biomass adoption, and the market is moving from resource potential to large-scale project implementation. Vietnam’s agricultural sector produces large volumes of crop residues, and its cities face the same waste-management pressures that waste-to-energy plants are designed to ease, so the technologies on show in Bangkok speak directly to challenges at home.
Running alongside the exhibition, the Global Biomass Energy Summit 2027 brings together policymakers, industry leaders, project developers, investors, EPC contractors and technology providers. Through keynote speeches, technical sessions and panel discussions, the summit focuses on real project implementation, financing models and cross-border collaboration in biomass power generation, waste-to-energy, advanced biofuels and industrial decarbonisation, with the aim of speeding up the commercialisation of biomass solutions in emerging markets.
